Description

Hetaone’s

“Mindfulness” is a work that synthesizes personal introspection and religious symbolism through contemporary aesthetics. Made in 2023, this piece of 40 cm high by 30 cm wide, uses a variety of mediums including pencil, ballpoint pen, felt, walnut broom and blue ink on paper.

At the heart of the work is a recurring character in the work of Hetaone, a man with shaved skull in christic position, symbolizing a modern and sacred figure in levitation. This character, dressed in modern streetwear, occupies the lower part of the composition, contrasting with the space above where the word “mindfulness” is written. The floating appearance of the figure suggests a spiritual quest or deep meditation, despite the ordinary aspects of her attire.

The paper used for this creation is made up of sheets on which personal and professional lists of tasks appear, anchoring the work in the daily reality of the artist. This inclusion of to-do lists adds an intimate and autobiographical dimension, recalling the concerns and responsibilities that punctuate the artist’s life.

The work is characterized by rips and recollages, creating horizontal stripes that cross the composition. These marks of deconstruction and reconstruction bring an additional visual texture and perhaps symbolize the fragmentation and reassembly of thoughts and experiences.

Blue ink is used to enhance the drawing, adding shading and volume to the character, as well as a shadow to the lettering. This use of colour creates a contrast with the natural paper and dark tones of walnut paste, adding depth and extra dimension to the work. The explosions of walnut-coloured light, scattered in the background, bring shards that break the monochromatic, adding subtle energy and vitality to the composition.

“Mindfulness” explores the theme of meditation and conscious presence, symbolized by the levitating position and the elements of daily life integrated in the work. Hetaone manages to merge various influences, creating a work that is both visually engaging and deeply meaningful. This piece reflects the artist’s ability to transform personal experiences into a universal visual language, inviting the viewer to contemplate the nature of consciousness and spirituality in a modern context.
